Tales of the Red Herring: The PiRatPiRats are virtual constructs, used by hackers to steal data.
This is usually achieved by releasing millions of PiRats into a company's DataStream, each stealing little random snippets. Assembling the stolen data at a later stage is a bit of an art.
What you see here is the most common visualisation of a PiRat mostly used by popular media to illustrate the concept.

It's just the visualisation of the hacker's concept^^. The "real" PiRat is just bits and bytes in the DataStream.
(Though there was a line of PiRat plush toys, and those will very probably feature in a future TotRH story
