Trying to colour a sketch in photoshop with limited success.

I'm not really satisfied with this, a lot of things wrong with it. But I thought I'd upload it anyway, just to remind myself to practice more. Lots more :)

(The character is "Harry", the mascot of our magazine. He's supposed to be a horse, but the character has changed a lot over the years, so it's difficult to tell.)

I actually think it's quite good. It doens't look like it was done in Photoshop. It looks like it was painted. If you want it to look more smooth, maybe you can try a surface-blur effect on it.

Shading seems to be alright. It looks believable three-dimentional.
The elbow seems a bit too detailed compared to the rest of it and maybe you can add a little shadow to the eyebrows, maybe?

Thanks for the input. The elbow is dreadful^^, eyebrows are all wrong, as you noticed^^. The only thing I remotely like is the hand.

(Not sure if I'll work on this one some more. If I do, I'll take your suggestions into consideration.)
I think it's a cute one :P :)
I had the same impression too... only when I read your commentary I realized it was digitally colored.

I like the style, btw.

Thank you :)

On the whole I prefer it when brush-strokes are still seen (or at least felt) in a painting-type piece. But that's no "absolute" rule. I like many different styles (and media) and I even love some pieces that are done in styles/media I usually don't like.
If it wasn't for his hair, I'll say he looks like a cute dragon...=P
I guess it could be improved - though what couldn't? - but he looks like a fun and memorable character. And the coloring here looks very good.
